S.W.A.T.
The mission of the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team is the preservation of life during critical incidents and high-risk operations. The SWAT Team is called upon to respond for service of high-risk search and arrest warrants; incidents involving barricaded suspects, hostage rescues, or active shooters; crowd control; and other special events.
The SWAT Team is a multi-jurisdictional team comprised of The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, Pickerington Police Department, the Fairfield Medical Center Police Department and the Violet Township Fire Department. The SWAT Team is currently comprised of 28 members. Members participate on the team as a collateral duty, in addition to their full-time assignments within the Sheriff’s Office, Police Departments and Fire Department. Assignments within the team include the ground team (entry and containment); snipers, tactical medics, K9 handlers, and drivers. As an additional resource, a Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) is attached to SWAT and is available for establishing dialogue with various subjects at a critical incident in an effort to attempt a safe resolution through communication
