Investigation Bureau

Sgt. Bryan Kohler and Sgt. Shaun Meloy
The Investigation Bureau is responsible for conducting criminal investigations into all major crimes including murder, assault, and robbery, as well as property related crimes, such as burglary and theft. In response to the needs of our community, the Investigation Bureau has a dedicated SVU detective with their focus being sexual assault case involving juveniles and adults.

Sergeant Meloy has been with the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office since 2002 where he began in the jail. Sergeant Meloy has experience in the jail and patrol bureaus, as well as being a member of the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team. Sergeant Meloy was assigned to the K9 unit in 2014 where he was partnered up with K9 KAHR. In 2021 K9 KAHR retired and Sergeant Meloy was transferred to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Bureau until he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2024. Sergeant Meloy currently oversees the Special Victim’s Unit.

The Special Victim’s Unit is responsible for conducting criminal investigations into sex crimes, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC), Child Protective Services Referrals, Adult Protective Services Referrals, Missing Juveniles and Missing/Endangered Adults.

Sergeant Kohler has been with the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office since 1998 where he attended the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office Academy. After obtaining his O.P.T.O.A. certification he started in the Narcotics Unit as an Auxiliary. Sergeant. Kohler worked in the Jail Bureau in 2001 and in the Patrol Bureau from 2001 to 2003.  Sergeant. Kohler has been assigned to the Investigation’s Bureau for 21 years and was promoted to Detective Corporal in 2023 and Detective Sergeant in 2024. Sergeant Kohler has been a certified Computer Voice Stress Analyst for 16 years conducting Criminal, Pre-Employment and Covert Examinations. Sergeant Kohler has attained a degree in Law Enforcement Technology from Columbus State.
